A brilliant proof printed by the artist in preparation for the final edition of 1977. Unsigned but bearing Tanner's stamped initials beneath the image, this signifying an impression remaining in the studio at the time of his death in 1988. Also inscribed K by the artist, a reminder that he should keep the print.
This plate was ultimately issued in K.M. Guichard’s British Etchers 1850-1940, published by Robin Garton in 1977. Impressions tend to be muddy and seldom reveal the artist’s intentions.
