A superb proof of this extremely rare plate, a cut-down version of an earlier etching of the same subject (L.117). Printed with tone on heavy wove paper. There is no recorded edition of this or the larger version and very few impressions have survived. Only one example, of the larger plate, was sold at Lafranca's sale at Sothebys in July 1998.
On an impression defaced with blue crayon Nicholson instructed Lafranca to destroy the plate and any existing impressions. The defaced proof and the cancelled plate may be seen in the present exhibition.
